The Story
Originally from Mumbai, he visited Kalimpong in 2010 for a music project with the Gandhi Ashram School and fell in love with the Hills. Soon, he came back as a music volunteer in 2011 and in no time, blended with the people and the local culture, discovering new things everyday, and with each passing year. While he kept visiting at least twice a year hence, he moved permanently in 2018. Now, he cannot imagine life outside Kalimpong’s villages.
Art Mile began as an arts organisation teaching Music & Drama in Kalimpong & Darjeeling before it metamorphosed into a Hill Resort for those who really want to experience the natural beauty of Kalimpong’s villages and the warmth of its people in the most responsible way possible - in the best interest of our planet as well. We therefore have a forward looking artistic view of tourism in the Hills.
In the Hills, localities are named after the distance in miles. It has brought together people from all walks of life and from the corners of the world to contribute to the creation of beauty, and it will always stay as a work-in-progress. Art Mile is therefore a destination but also a journey.
Art Mile promises a refreshing, warm, deep and artistic travel experience in harmony with nature and people.
Virgil lives on the property and takes pleasure in interacting with guests to bring them the best experience of Kalimpong, that he himself was fortunate to receive.
